Nicole Ravenell Edwards is President and CEO of the Southern Institute on Children and Families. Edwards also is a Founding Partner in Grant and Ravenell Process Management Group. She provides leadership for all initiatives of the Southern Institute. Edwards has 20 years of experience working in public policy related to the well-being of children and families in the areas of public education, child care and health coverage and health care. She has a Green Belt certificate in Lean Six Sigma from Villanova University.
Edwards provides policy technical assistance to teams participating in Collaboratives led by the Southern Institute. She also provides technical assistance to public and private agencies on Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program policy and data analysis, including gathering enrollment and renewal data and measuring the effectiveness of outreach strategies.
Edwards managed and provided policy technical assistance for seven years to 51 statewide projects and more than 140 local projects as Deputy Director of Policy during the Covering Kids and Covering Kids & Families national initiatives. She is the author and co-author of 15 reports featuring data and policy information on a variety of issues related to child and family well-being, including child care and early education, health coverage and obesity awareness and prevention. Edwards also was the Project Director for an Obesity Assessment Project in South Carolina to develop a strategic plan to decrease the incidence of overweight and/or obese children and adolescents.
Edwards joined the Southern Institute in 2000. She previously served as a Policy Fellow with the Ounce of Prevention Fund, Kids Public Education and Policy Project (Kids PEPP) in Chicago, Illinois; worked with the Chicago Public Schools; and worked at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Edwards earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Temple University in 1995 and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago in 1997.
